TITLE: "Flights of fancy" © Chris Eisenbraun 1983.

At first I thought of myself as a fantasy artist. I loved to read fantasy and sci fi books and would find myself drawing in this vein. But I knew this wasn't what I wanted to be known for forever. I remember walking the streets of Frankfurt at night, asking myself repeatedly what my style was, what was it that I was trying to say and how was I going to do it???? Many, many years later I realized that I had been doing it all along but without purpose. Symbolism and surrealism combine all of my passions: mythology, psychology and a never-ending search for the meaning underneath it all. Go figure. This is one of the paintings done before I found my particular path...

An inherent symbolism of the piece involves air/intellect/free spiritedness (the butterfly) pulled from the sky by earth/passion/one mired in the day-to-day (the leprechaun). Why the three words per? Go to the symbolism reference part of the site (click here) and read the article about the three layers to symbols :)

Symbolistic details in this section of the page are just clues and hints for the curious and/or frustrated. These are just a few thoughts, details for those who like to know behind-the-scenes sort of details. Don't want to know? Skip past the words and take the piece on your own terms :)
